Today we took some time off from thinking about the class business, to enjoy a business tour at Case IH in Albion with Patrick Moore. He walked us through the timeline of owners, mergers, and a location change. Patrick also touched on the ups and downs of farming and the impact it can have on any business like his in the Ag sector, for instance the droughts and interest rate spikes in the 1980’s. After graduating from ECHS in 1990, attending Wabash Valley College and Eastern earning a degree in Finance, Patrick came back to work at Case IH with his dad, Chip Moore in 1994. But he started out sweeping floors and cleaning toilets before working his way up to sales. He feels that was extremely important for him as he told the class that no job is beneath you. So in the last year Patrick has bought into the business and with that came some requirements. Some renovations were required of him from Case IH to meet their standards. And Patrick prides himself in using almost all local businesses in this remodel. We got to walk through parts, merchandising, the shop and equipment outside. He explained how much machinery has changed over the years in technology. And with this new technology, like auto steer, farmers are more efficient operating their business and less stressed. In the end he left the class with some words of advice he feels helped him over the years: Find a good mentor, be respectful, build relationships, find out what your customers needs are and fix them, be honest, be organized, learn to delegate responsibility, appreciate your employees and be a good communicator.
