On Tuesday the class traveled to Arnold Landscaping and Lawn Care in West Salem with Tyson Arnold. Tyson explained to us how this originally started when he was about 12 years old, and he mowed yards with his brother in the summertime. Then in high school his FFA advisor suggested that he keep records on their little business allowing him the opportunity to win a state award for those records. So he continued that passion going onto Wabash Valley College in Ag. Then onto SIUC for a degree in Plant and Soil Science / Turf Care and Landscaping. An internship following college in St Louis managing a landscape business gave Tyson the reassurance that he was ready to come back to his home area and start building his own business. Since his passion lied more in lawn care than landscaping, he went more that route over time. His crews mow approximately 150 residential and commercial properties weekly, or 300 acres. Tyson prides himself in doing great work and being consistent. On top of mowing, he still does some landscaping when time allows. As well as shrub trimming, fertilizing and seeding, mulch, commercial parking lot cleaning / maintenance and snow removal just to name a few.
